We are pleased to present Infrastructure Canada’s Departmental Results Report for 2018-19. This report outlines the Department’s results in terms of its commitments toward building stronger communities that Canadians can be proud to call home.

Working closely with our partners, to date more than 48,000 projects have been approved under the Investing in Canada plan, the vast majority of which are underway or completed, creating good, middle class jobs and making our communities better places to live.

We have also reached major milestones in the Samuel De Champlain Bridge Corridor and the Gordie Howe International Bridge projects. We also held conversations with Canadians in rural and remote communities across the country, which allowed us to develop Canada’s first Rural Economic Development Strategy.

The Department saw a number of other important firsts during the fiscal year. The Canada Infrastructure Bank made its initial investment commitment; the Smart Cities Challenge selected its first finalists; and the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund selected a first round of funding recipients.

We partnered with Statistics Canada to publish the first round of data from Canada’s Core Public Infrastructure survey which is now being used by governments and stakeholders for more informed policy-making and analysis.

We planned for an even stronger workforce within our Department to deliver on our mandate. We made good progress within the organization by adopting a Human Resources Management Plan and new tools to help us work more effectively and efficiently. We piloted a new approach to help improve the flow of project funding and we enhanced our research and policy-making capacity to foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making. These are just a few examples of our accomplishments throughout the year.

We invite you to read this report to get a closer understanding of the results produced by the Department over the past year on the wide range of infrastructure projects that have benefited our communities.
